Number One Rated Trex Deck Installation

Trex is the name most homeowners ask for first when they decide on a composite deck, and as a Trex Pro authorized installer the local contractors we work with build to the manufacturer's spec on every detail. The framing has to be inside Trex's published guidelines for the warranty to apply, the fasteners have to be Trex Hideaway or an approved alternate, and the layout has to honor the way the boards were extruded. We treat every Trex deck like the manufacturer is going to inspect it, because for warranty registration purposes they effectively do.

Picking Between Trex Select, Enhance, and Transcend

Tier and color selection is the first conversation. Trex Select is the entry-level tier, Enhance Naturals is the mid-tier with a wider color range, and Transcend is the flagship with the most realistic grain pattern — the line contractors in our network install most often on custom multi-level decks. We bring sample boards from all three tiers to the estimate so you can see them next to your siding and decide based on actual visuals, not a printed swatch.

The price gap between Enhance and Transcend on a typical residential deck is smaller than most homeowners expect, and the visual upgrade is significant.

Framing to Trex Spec or the Warranty Goes Away

Trex framing is tight. The manufacturer requires sixteen-inch joist centers for residential horizontal application, twelve-inch for diagonal layouts and stair treads, and twelve-inch under any concentrated load like a hot tub. Contractors in our network frame to those numbers without exception, even when the underlying lumber would technically allow wider spacing.

Wider spacing voids the warranty, and we are not putting your twenty-five-year coverage at risk to save twenty board feet of joist.

Hidden Trex Fasteners, Never Top-Screws

Hidden fasteners are required on Trex for the surface warranty to apply, the same way they are required on every composite deck installation vetted contractors in our network build. Vetted contractors in our network use Trex Hideaway as the default, Camo Edge as the approved alternate, and we never top-screw a Trex board. The fastener spacing comes straight from the manufacturer's installation guide, and we follow it on every clip.

A top-screwed Trex deck looks cheap from day one and voids your coverage on top of it.

Mixing Trex Boards So the Grain Reads Natural

Board layout on Trex matters more than on most other composites because the Transcend grain pattern repeats in a specific cycle. We mix boards from multiple bundles during install so the grain pattern reads as natural variation rather than an obvious repeat. We also snap a chalk line for the first board, picture-frame the perimeter to hide cut ends, and stagger end joints over joists so the surface looks like one continuous piece of finished decking — not a stack of pre-fab boards.

Registering Your 25-Year Trex Warranty Day One

Warranty registration is part of close-out. Trex registers the warranty to the homeowner, not to us or to the property, and registration has to happen for the warranty to apply. Vetted contractors in our network submit the paperwork with your contact information after the build, and you get the registered warranty card from Trex within a few weeks.

The warranty transfers on sale of the home with the right paperwork, which we hand off with the close-out package.

Hands-On Experience With Trex Deck Installation

We built a Transcend Spiced Rum deck on a Johns Creek property over a twenty-two by sixteen footprint with a built-in bench around two sides. The homeowner had originally specced Enhance Naturals, but after seeing the multi-tonal Transcend grain pattern next to the home's brick at sunset, they upgraded on the spot. The price difference for the deck size was small enough that the upgrade was easy.

Two years in, the deck still looks new and has been trouble-free through normal use, and the warranty is registered in the homeowner's name with the paperwork on file.

Craftsmanship & Quality Standards

The craft on a Trex deck is in honoring the manufacturer's spec without cutting corners. Joist centers tight enough. Hidden fasteners only.

Grain pattern mixed across bundles so it does not repeat. Picture frame on the perimeter. Warranty registered the day we leave.

None of it is hard, and all of it is the difference between a deck that the manufacturer will stand behind for twenty-five years and one that the manufacturer will deny coverage on at year three.

Trex Deck Installation Questions, Answered

Which Trex tier is right for me?

Select for budget-conscious projects. Enhance Naturals for the best balance of price and aesthetics. Transcend for the most realistic grain pattern and widest color range. We bring all three sample sets to the estimate visit.

Will Trex fade?

Trex carries a 25-year fade warranty measured by Delta-E color difference. In our experience, top-tier Trex Transcend installs at year 5 are visually indistinguishable from new.

Can I top-screw Trex to save money?

We do not offer top-screw installation — it voids the surface portion of the Trex warranty. Hidden fasteners are required.

Does Trex get hot in the sun?

Yes, especially the darker colors. Lighter colors run cooler. We discuss heat with every dark-color order.

How long does a Trex deck last?

Surface life is 25 to 30 years per manufacturer warranty. Framing life depends on the underlying lumber — pressure-treated framing typically outlasts the surface.
